A question is never basic, unless you ask twice.

This is a really good book. Not only because it explain lot of BEEP
concepts but also because it has lot of material about beepcore-c and
beepcore-java. In fact, I think it is the best resource available to
write beepcore-c based programs.

Uhmmn...I think you didn't check Vortex Library documentation center
[1].

There are other similar frameworks but they are based on its experience
rather than in a standard. I heard something called muscle. However for
the kind of application you want to build you'll best choice is BEEP.

Currently we are working on implementing a XML-RPC interface, with a
protocol compiler, for a project we are working on. We also need to make
Vortex Library to be usable from C#, mainly becase the final product has
a client interface written in C#.

In fact, if you have ever written a binding piece for an API, you'll
find that Vortex Library is prepared and written, keeping in mind that
point.
